Deflam EM82
Deflam EM82 is a halogenfree, intumescent flame retardant developed for use in
polypropylene. It is a synergistic formulation of nitrogen and phosphorus containing
compounds. The mechanism is based on intumescence. At exposure to fire a strong and stable
char is formed which portents the polymer and prevents further flame propagation. |

Application :
Deflam EM82 is a flame retardant for polypropylene. Formulations with 28-30wt. % of Deflam
EM82 in PP(MFI=5.0) can achieve UL 94 V-0 rating(1.6mm). |

Processing guidelines :
Careful temperature control during processing is advised in order to obtain the best
results with Deflam EM82. Excessive heat must be avoided to prevent premature
decomposition. Processing above 210 0C
may cause discoloration of the polymer with some off-gassing and , as a general rule when
compounding flame retardants, the lower the temperature, the better. Temperatures in the
range of 180-190 0C are
preferred. Proper devolatilization during compounding is also recommended.
It is essential that Deflam EM82 is thoroughly mixed into the host polymer, preferably
using a twin screw compounder.
The use of other polymer additives with Deflam EM82 should be carefully evaluated. No
problems have been encountered with TiO2, which may be
used to give white parts.
